M4H

Architecture in a Spatial Framework  |  Rotterdam  |  the Netherlands

The development of the Merwe-Vierhavens district into the breeding ground of the innovative manufacturing industry goes hand in hand with the creation of new urban fabric. Covering an area as big as the city centre, the harbours are transformed into a place where port and city make the future together. In addition to innovative manufacturers, M4H accommodates knowledge institutes and educational establishments, creative makers and support services, housing, cultural facilities, restaurants and shops. The charisma of this lively district impacts both city and port.

Programme developer Rotterdam Makers District commissioned Delva Landscape Architecture Urbanism to set a spatial framework in which future developments could take place. Against this backdrop, KettingHuls explored architectural possibilities and stipulated visual qualities that would strengthen the identity of the new district.
