Transformation Strategy of a Port Area to a Residential Neighbourhood | Kópavogur | Iceland
Kársnes Harbour is an industrial area with a harbour basin situated on a rugged piece of reclaimed land on the tip of the Kársnes peninsula, in the middle of the Capital Region. The area will be gradually transforms into a mixed urban milieu with dwellings, businesses and facilities. The Transformation Strategy plays with the existing qualities of the site in the intermediate period and uses it to change the mental map of the inhabitants of the Capital Region, before the new master plan will be implemented. It proposes interventions regarding the programme of the public space, short-term improvements on public transport and bicycle connections.
